Yayasan Sarawak gets RM4 mln for uniforms of needy students

19 July 2017  :  

KUCHING: The state government this year has approved a total of RM4 million to Yayasan Sarawak to distribute vouchers to needy students for the purchase of school uniforms.

Each voucher amount has been increased to RM200 from RM100 previously.

`Lab session to discuss means to deal with dilapidated schools in Sarawak` - Manyin

19 July 2017  :  

TEBEDU: A lab session will be held this week to discuss matters concerning dilapidated schools across the state, including the costing and actions to be taken.

According to Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin, the lab serves as a platform for them to identify the schools for repair works beginning next year.

Swinburne signs agreement with ACCA

Initiative to prioritise English receives federal support

KUCHING: The Sarawak governments initiative to prioritise English in the state through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research has received the backing of the federal Education Ministry.

Deputy Minister of Education Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the ministry is open for more discussions with the state government on the usage of English and to improve the proficiency of English among students.

KUCHING: About 70% of the 1,454 schools in Sarawak have been categorised as dilapidated and in need of immediate attention from the authorities.

Of the 1,020 schools concerned, 415 are categorised as being in critically dilapidated condition, said state Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong.

Sarawak to raise tax on hill timber by more than 6,000%

09 May 2017  :  

KUCHING: The Sarawak government is to raise the hill timber premium by more than 6,000% from the current RM0.80 to RM50 per metric metre of logs harvested, effective July 1.

The new rate for the hill timber premium will affect all hill logs, including logs of hill species from agri-conversion areas and Yayasan Sarawak concession areas.
