SIBU: A total of 240 recipients from 20 schools in Sibu division received excellence student awards from Yayasan Sarawak in a ceremony here yesterday.
The foundation director Azmi Bujang said the recipients were from the 20 schools in this division.
For Sibu, there are 206 recipients who excelled in SPM while there are 21 top students in STPM from 18 schools. As for Kanowit, there are eight recipients for SPM and five for STPM from two schools, he said in his welcoming speech at Yayasan Sarawak Excellent Students Prize Handing Ceremony 2018 for Sibu Division.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the event held at University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) campus here. He pointed out that the award presentation ceremony was carried out statewide. Azmi also disclosed that the application dateline for Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Taib scholarships had closed adding that a total of 2,112 applications were received. He also touched on the recently launched Yayasan Sarawak student apps which can be downloaded via smartphones.
Also present at the function were Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, Deputy State Secretary (Socio-Economic Transformation) Datu Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and UCTS vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.
